POSITION PURPOSE
The Director, Office of the CEO, is a senior business support and advisory resource to the CEO, responsible for ensuring the CEO has the insights, decision-ready information, and organizational alignment required to operate the business effectively.
This role coordinates priorities across the enterprise, oversees preparation of executive materials, and provides strategic advice and judgment on issues affecting the CEO and organization.
The Director supports the CEO through issues tracking, staying ahead of emerging priorities, and independently leading high-impact, enterprise initiatives on behalf of the CEO, advancing organizational performance and reputation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Initiative Leadership
· Lead and deliver priority, cross-functional initiatives sponsored by the CEO—including business transformation initiatives, and operational improvements.
· Define scope, develop execution plans, and independently drive initiatives from concept to delivery with minimal direction.
· Act as the CEO’s delegate on priority initiatives, ensuring alignment, pace, and accountability across the enterprise.
· Operate with a high degree of autonomy, taking full ownership of initiatives and outcomes once priorities are established by the CEO.
· Support continuous improvement and operational excellence efforts across the business.
2. Issues Management & Decision Support
· Identify, track, triage, and support resolution of operational and strategic issues impacting the CEO’s office or the broader organization.
· Conduct options analysis with data informed risk evaluation and propose mitigation strategies to CEO.
· Ensure the CEO is briefed on critical issues with clear options and recommended pathways.
3. Executive Governance: Executive Leadership Team & Board Operations
· Support CEO preparations for board and committee meetings, including synthesis of materials, key insights, and strategic considerations.
· Provide strategic input on materials to ensure clarity of recommendations, risks, and alignment to enterprise priorities.
4. Executive Office Operations & Integration
· Ensure seamless operations of the Office of the President & CEO, establishing standards for communication, briefing materials, decision documents, and information flow.
· Integrate executive support functions to create consistency, alignment, and efficiency across the enterprise.
· Oversee internal coordination, prioritization, and alignment of executive activities to ensure the CEO’s time is optimized for the most strategic matters.
· Continuously identify and implement opportunities to optimize executive office operations, decision flow, and organizational alignment.
5. Data Analytics for Business Performance Insights
· Informed by and in partnership with Operations and Data Analytics teams synthesize and translate data and analytics into clear, strategic advice for the CEO.
· Leverage analytics and reporting already produced across the organization, focusing on integration, alignment, and executive-level interpretation rather than primary analysis.
· Serve as a central point of coordination to ensure insights are aligned across functions and support enterprise decision-making and performance outcomes.
6. Stakeholder Outreach & Strategic Engagement
· Informed by and in partnership with Government Relations/Stakeholder Relations (GR/SR) and Communications advise the CEO on strategic outreach priorities.
· In partnership with Communications coordinate preparation for speaking engagements and external interactions, ensuring consistency in messaging and positioning.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, law, public administration, policy or related field. MBA or equivalent considered an asset.
· 8–10+ years of progressive professional experience in strategy, business operations, law, governance, or executive environments, including at least 5 years supporting senior executives (Directors, VP, CEO, or equivalent).
· Demonstrated experience operating in complex, multi-stakeholder environments with enterprise-wide exposure.
Experience preparing board-level materials and advising senior executives.
Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive issues with high judgment and confidentiality.
Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level, cross-functional initiatives with full ownership and accountability.
Knowledge Requirements
Deep understanding of corporate governance, executive operations, and business planning processes.
Understanding of how to leverage enterprise analytics and performance insights to inform strategic decision-making.
Expertise in change management, and issues management.
Political acuity and ability to navigate complex multi-stakeholder environments.

About Electrical Safety Authority
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) regulates and promotes electrical safety in Ontario. The ESA is Ontario’s delegated administrative authority for electrical safety, reporting to the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement (MPBSDP). ESA operates independently while working closely with the government to enforce and promote electrical safety regulations across the province.
