Belonging at ESA
Everything we do starts with our people.
As Ontario’s electricity system evolves, so do we. Strong teams — built on trust, respect and diverse perspectives — are essential to delivering on our safety mandate in a time of transformation.
At ESA, we’re focused on creating a workplace where people are supported to grow, contribute and lead. Inclusion is reflected in how we work, make decisions and support one another.
Guided by the Global Diversity and Inclusion Benchmark, our IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility) strategy focuses on:
Diversifying representation across our sector
Strengthening inclusive leadership and accountability
Fostering a respectful, supportive work environment
When people are supported and empowered, they do their best work, and that’s how we deliver safer outcomes for Ontarians.
Inclusion and Accountability at the Top
ESA is a signatory to Electricity Human Resources Canada’s Leadership Accord on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion — a public leadership commitment to advance inclusion and remove barriers to equitable participation in the workplace.
We hold ourselves accountable to this commitment at all levels of our organization, including the makeup of our leadership.
At ESA:
The Board and senior leadership are comprised of individuals with diverse perspectives, experiences and sector expertise
There is gender parity at both the Executive and Board levels
Our Executive Leadership Team is majority women
Representation at the top strengthens governance, decision-making and the culture we build across ESA.
A diverse and inclusive workforce is not just good for people. It is essential for helping our sector deliver on its ambitious growth agenda and support Ontario’s economic future.
Building Pathways into the Sector
ESA partners with organizations that help expand access to meaningful careers in the electrical field.
We work with the IBEW 353 Pathways Program to support women entering the electrical sector through mentorship and guidance.

We also collaborate with Indigenous Skills, Education, Apprenticeship and Development (ISEAD) to support community-led training and create pathways to Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor licences for Indigenous journeypersons.
These partnerships help strengthen representation and opportunity across Ontario’s electrical sector.

ESA has really supported my authentic self and career growth by creating a space where learning and personal development are encouraged every day. I’ve had leaders who believe in me, challenge me, and give me opportunities to grow in ways that feel true to who I am. What I appreciate most is that it’s okay not to be perfect here — we’re all human, and the focus is on learning, improving, and showing up a little better each day.

I like working here as it feels rewarding to have the opportunity to work with others, to explain what we do and the value we provide. In past careers, there has been a want to be similar - ESA has been accepting of being yourself and what you bring to the team as being your best self. This is an environment of self improvement and embracing that each person has something unique to contribute.
